hub length with double roller

I have an aftermarket hub for my fresh built LT1. I installed a cloyes double roller and I believe I would need to shave a little off the new hub so it is properly aligned? Does anyone know if this is required and if so how much?

I don't know how much further the cloyes sticks out from stock but I would assume that would be how much I need to shave off the end of the hub.

Does anyone have any input?

need more info.. What year LTx engine? What "aftermarket" hub are you using and what balancer?

Generally you do not need to machine the hub down with any combination unless your running some sort of extra long special hub. OBD2 cars have a crank reluctor gear which is removed when converting to a double roller. Most aftermarket balancers come with a shim or spacer for the OBD1 engines not using the reluctor gear.

I am running a superdamper and a Cloyes double roller on an OBD2 motor. I ended up using the spacer to get correct belt alignment even though the spacer is not "required" by the manufacturer...

Here is the info...

95 LT1. No reluctor ring.
ASP Billet Hub
ASP Dampner

So I was assuming since the double roller set sticks out further that it would push my hub out further. If I used a spacer it would just move it out even further? Also, the 96 hubs are shorter why would you use a spacer on an OBDI hub since they are the longer of the two anyway?

the timing chain sprocket is the same thickness as stock where the hub contacts it, however, timing chain cover clearancing is needed to stop the chain from rubbing on the cover

Gotcha! So my "stock replacement" hub as they call it will work fine?

Awesome!

(correct me if anyone has any concerns!)

it should. I am not familiar with the ASP piece but most of the hubs are all made to the same lenghth as the OBD2 hubs. And the manufacturer throws in a spacer so the hub will work with both OBD1 and OBD2 engines. No need for them to manufacture 2 hubs, just 1 and a spacer.
