Hub and damper problems

Basically while a friend of mine where trying to get the crankshaft hub back on he used a hammer and now the metal on the tip of the hub has warped.

W'eve made sure everything is aligned correctly and the damper still wont go flush onto the hub, its always cocked at an angle.

So is there an easy fix for this or should I just replace both parts?
and if so, stock or aftermarket???

Re: Hub and damper problems

For lack of replacing the hub, get out the file or lightweight grinder and use delicately.

Get a new friend, too. Depending on how badly he mushroomed the end of the hub you might be better off with a new hub.

Also get the proper hub install tool. Makes life a thousand times easier.

Re: Hub and damper problems

I got a new hub for about 70 through jegs. Nice piece and its keyed so keeps everything nice and alinged. Seems beating it could have been bad on other parts. I used a chunk of allthread and a stack of washers and threaded it on until the bolt would catch several threads. I read its good to replace the bolt after removal and keep in mind the spacer is very important and they dont make it anymore so dont lose it or you will have to find a replacement or get the specs on it to get a replacement.

Re: Hub and damper problems

Whats the part number for the hub????

Oh, and just a quick question.

When I bought the car, the original owner said it had corvette gears.
I was just wondering about the details on that

LOL, the "Corvette" buzzword. That's used by people who don't know what they are talking about and want to try to impress someone with BS. The GU code on the sticker in the glove box will tell you what it came from the factory with.

GU2=2.73
GU5=3.23
GU6=3.42

GU5 is the performance axle ratio for automatics. 3.42s were used on 6 speeds.

Re: Hub and damper problems

To make it even worse, the C4 Corvette differential is derived from the Dana 36 (auto trans) and the Dana 44 (manual trans) and the parts would not be interchangeable with the 10-bolt used in the 4th Gen F-Bodys. You couldn't even use the entire C4 Corvette diff in the F-Body without major surgery, because the C4 rear is bolted to the chassis, and attached to fully independent rear suspension.
