HP question

If i get le heads what cam should I get and what kinda hp could I expect. I know I would have to get a tune. But with my bolt ons would I be able to beat ls1's that only have bolt ons. I want to keep my lt1 but it seems that its not that big hp motor unless you bore it over. thanks for the answers

Re: HP question

It doesn't take much to make an LT1 beat a stock LS1. The problem is you don't see many stock ones around. Heads are a very nice upgrade. I would say that is one of the best bangs for the buck.

You don't have enough bolt-ons to support the heads and cam.

Re: HP question

Injectors is the only thing I see

If you are getting a cam head package from said supplier
Tbody will support it intake will too so I'm not sure what you are missing

Oh and a larger fuel pump and an adjustable fpr would be advisable

Is it a stick or auto, what gears and exhaust after the headers for a start.

Re: HP question

You have to have an estimate of flywheel HP before you can pick the correct injector size. Stay away from an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Not needed.

Look at sites like:

http://www.elliottsportworks.com/

http://www.advancedinduction.com/AiProductsLT1.html

........for an estimate of HP vs various levels of head porting/cam selection.

Re: HP question

The reason the LT1 has a reputation for not making much power is because of the people who own them more than the engine. The engine can work GREAT if you are capable of doing meaningful research and following directions. Trouble is people find a recipe and then make a bunch of substitutions for things that are "just as good" and miss the mark.

Find a recipe that is a little faster than you want to go and then either follow it closely and ask the owner what tweaks they would make if doing it over again. Most of us with fast cars have bought parts we would not bother with a second time and will share that info with others which could save you money and hassle.

head/cam setup and of course you can never go wrong with suspension upgrades like the LCAs, some relocation brackets, and so forth

Re: HP question

elliott has been a proven head and cam combo for LT1's. Ive knowen of at least one person with the LE2 heads and a suggested cam from elliott making 400+ rwhp. AI wouldn't be a bad choice either. Best call either one of them and tell them what you goals are and they should be able to advise you on a head/cam combo.

FYI, when your putting down 380+ rwhp from a head and cam set up you should be beating bolted on LS1's or at the very least holding your own which accounts for 80% of LS1's you will run into. Make sure you have the supporting mods like valve train and fuel components. You may also want to look into a new timming chain and oil pump. Who ever you choose to call about your H/C set up should be able to steer you in the right direction. Good luck and I hope you end up handing your LS1 friends there *** in the near future.

PS, My bolt on LS A4 car was running 12.2 in the 1/4. I had just about EVERYTHING for bolt on's, in better weather I could have seen a 12.1 or 12.0, that was with out a tune. Guys with my mods with weight reduction where running between 11.5-11.9 Just to give you an idea what you should shoot for.
