How's this for cam only LT1 dyno numbers :D

My little brother just went and got his 1995 Formula dynoed yesterday and we are extremely happy with it. We did the complete Cam install ourselves (never had even worked on an opened up engine before).
The mods for his car are:
G2 intake (probably ****tiest intake for our cars besides stock)
1le elbow
CC306 cam
Comp Cams NSA 1.6 Pro Mags 7/16
Hardened pushrods
Comp R lifters
986 dual Comp valve springs
Pacesetter longtubes
4.10 gears
Madwolf tune
30# injectors

Still on stock heads and stock throttle body.

Car put down 347.6rwhp and 344.1 rwtq
1st run was 343.4rwhp and 342rwtq

Anyways, it started dropping off power at like 6300 rpm. I thought this cam was suppose to pull hard all the way up to 6600. Could the rockers be a little too tight? Any other ideas.

All in all though, everyone that was there (mostly LS1 cars) were very impressed with the number for being stock heads.

Very nice numbers!

If you're hell bent on cracking 350rwhp, a CSI, TB foil, and a better CAI will probably get it easily. Pulleys too if you're looking for every last ounce...

Personally, I wouldn't bother though, damn good numbers!

Those are nice numbers. If your dyno included wide ban for A/F then
you should send that data to Ion so he can look at it and possibly
adjust your tune. Was the dyno correction factor SAE?

the drop in power earlier than expected is probably due to the stock heads. still, i wouldn't be disappointed with numbers like that.

Yeah, he (19years old) was all smiles when the numbers came up. Funny thing was after 4 hours of dynoing multiple Fbodys and Ybodys (vettes), he had the highest dyno numbers there for any Fbody.

I was thinking it also might be the stock heads on his car also. The dyno was SAE corrected. There was also a lot of people saying the this particular dyno was dynoing low, as much as 7 to 15rwhp low. I am not about to sit here and think his car is doing from 354rwhp to possibly 362rwhp, but we are going to go to another local dyno to see if the numbers are low at all.

The crazy thing to is I hit those damn pesky Comp R lifters lash setting on the first try. I was so nervous about adjusting for zero lash with those things, as I had heard can be very tempermental. I just did the up/down method and went about 1/16th past zero.

The comp r's are touchy. If you set them with lash about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn you went way to far. Something like about 1/16 is more true past zero lash. I believe it should be something like .002-.004 past zero lash.

Yep, exactly what I did. After I felt no up/down movement with that method, I turned the box wrench just enough to say I did. Went no more than 1/16th of a turn. To this day, or about 600 miles later, the valvetrain is perfect.

Good numbers. I'm sure you will hit 350 RWHP with a real man's cold air induction kit.

Thanks a ton Ion (madwolf) for the killer tune. I am going to send you a copy of the dyno graph tommorow to see if you think there is anything else you can do to fine "tune" the PCM.

Also, I thought it was going to pull to 6600 rpm, but hey I am happy with almost 350rwhp cam only LT1 car.

That cam should peak around 6150-6250 on stock heads. It will slowly drop off afterwards. If it drops like a rock, then you probably have valvetrain issues. But you WILL want to shift it at 6600 or close to get best track times.

Re: How's this for cam only LT1 dyno numbers :D

You should be OK with 1/16 past if the car was cold and then when she warms up it would be almost 0 lash hopefully, I tried 1/16th and then zero lash or more like 1/32nd past and it felt even better! So I just did it when the car was warmed up and running and set at 0 lash. Thing is 1/16th might be perfect with 3/8th studs but with 7/16th studs it might be on the much side.

However if she's not dropping like a rock then you should be fine, with heads prolly a bit more RPM as the heads would prolly stall at that RPM anyways.

Good number BTW!

Yeah, it is NOT dropping like a rock at all. It just ever so sligthly dips just a tad. And I did the 1/16th turn while the motor was cold.
