How are you guys mounting your 685 boxes in the glove box?
How are you guys mounting your 685 boxes in the glove box?
How are you guys securing them in there? I was thinking about just using some double sided tape, but I wanted to see if anyone had any better solutions.
Re: How are you guys mounting your 685 boxes in the glove box?

Thats how the guy who sold me the box mounted it, he used a little block of wood on the top part of the mallory screw holes. put two screws through the plastic in the back of the glovebox that went into the "little wood blocks"
Re: How are you guys mounting your 685 boxes in the glove box?
The box has two long flat feet that run the length. I cut a small notch across the inside area of the glove box that would allow one side of those feet to hook in. On the back, I did just as described above, I cut a 5 inch long piece of 1" X 2" wood and drilled two holes through the backside of the glove box that basically lock the ignition box from coming upward. With some pressure, I can slide the box side to side but it is completely locked down.
Here's what I mean about the notch that I cut across the front area inside the glove box.

I don't have a picture of the wood along the backside, inside the glove box but here's the screws holding.

The wood retaining the rear foot of the box may seem hokey but I covered it with electrical tape making it virtually impossible to see. The lock down is totally secure and it allows me to move the module from side to side several inches in case I need to make some room for a small object. As you can see here, I store my loop-back connector in the tiny space left over.

the 93-96 glove box is slightly different than the 97. ours seems to be smaller, and i dont think they will work the way u 2 have them.
if i still had my dig. i would snap a pic for ya.

You shouldn't mount any ignition box in the glove box. It needs air circulation around it. Both Mallory and MSDs instructions specifically state not to mount in the glove box.

Here's what the manual says regarding heat and location:
Step 2
Select a convenient location to mount the HYFIRE® VI Electronic Ignition Control. Keep the
unit away from hot engine components or extreme heat such as the exhaust system and
manifolds. Also, keep it away from moving devices, such as fans, belts and linkages. The
location must be dry. Moisture will damage components inside the unit.
I agree cooler is better and will see about adding a circulating computer fan to the glove box. I really like having it there.

Here's an addendum to my previous post. I just drove the car about 55 miles testing my nitrous (not for the entire time)
. The Mallory does indeed get hot. Too hot to hold my hand upon. The glove box didn't feel like an oven but I can imagine after several hours temperatures could become extreme. I will have to re-think about the cooling. For now, the ignition box is unhooked until I need the nitrous and/or install a fan.

I thought the instructions only say not to mount it in an enclosed area, and my guess would be since most people mount ignition boxes under the hood that is what they are saying. I guess I'll have to to read over the instructions again. Or mabey I'll just cut off the back panel to the glove box to get some more air circulation.:edit: Heres what mallorys instructions say
