The "fan belt" is a serpantine design. Tension is held on the belt automatically via the belt tensioner. If the belt becomes too warn out then you just replace it. Signs of wear are glazing, more than three crack across in a one inch section, and the tensioner indicating it's out of limits. Cracking is normal but it just shouldn't have three straight across in a one inch span.

Its replace the belt time, mine did the same thing, squealed like a little pig, until i stuck a new belt on. Cheap part, hard as hell to put on flying solo. Get some help. to hold it in place while you work from underneath on the tensioner.

Most likely just te belt. To remove it you need a 3/8" ratchet.I belive its a 13mm nut on the tensioner... (correct me if I am wrong) use that to pull the tensioner loose, then the belt will slid out. Just take notice as to how it was routed. Put the new belt in its place and use pull the tensioner again, sliding the new belt back on. thats it. But before you buy the belt, just check the tensioner. Pull the belt off and make sure you dont have anything locking up on ya like an alternator or something. if a bearing on an accessory is going south on ya it will produce the same sound. The tensioners on the LT1's were/are not the best of quality and have been known to break. The belt is not a hard job, but it does help to have an extra set of hands to hold the tensioner while you change the belt.
