How to read the dipstick?
How to read the dipstick?
How do you read the dipstick?
I just bought some engine restore stuff, due to my engine puffing out some smoke on startups and burning some oil, and I dont want to overfill it.
It seems like there are some holes in the shaded area on the dipstick and i'm wondering if this could indicate .5 qt marks
Right now the level is about half way up in the shaded area.
I'm gonna drain a little oil and then add it in as I'm about 2,000 miles away from my next oil change.

Gotcha
I'll guess I'll try to get rid of about 3/4-1 qts
I haven't opened the can of Engine Restore, but I'm assuming its thick enough and has a color on it so I can see it on the dipstick before its had a chance to mix with the oil.

I used to have to do similar stuff at a shop.....boss didn't want to waste the new oil...
I just drained it in a clean container then added it back and checked it to make sure it was right.
trying to drain just a little of it out is going to make a big mess

Yea I might just do that
I might be wrong but I thought if you unscrew the drain plug very very slowly it will start to come out a little bit, and then i'd just chill until enough was gone and tighten it back up.
I can't think of anything that I can catch it in that I'd be able to put it back in easily
As of now I was planning on using a gallon milk carton that I cut in half.
