How much for a Header install?

Well how much should I expect to pay to have a gaurage install headers on my 97 Z? I've messed with headers before on vehicles with 6 times the amount of room and forget about it on this thing!! Just would like to get an idea.. Thanks

I would say a shop could charge close to $500, possibly more. It's not very complicated but they can be very time consuming. I did my own but I took my time on it, worked on it off and on last winter. It would have been a full weekend project straight through though.

8-10 hours around $50-60 an hour, depending on the mechanic....Some shops will discount you a bit if you tell them to have the car for a week or so and just take their time....

Cool

Any shop with experience in our cars will charge $400 to $600 depending on locality and hourly rate to do a complete install of headers, plugs and wires. This includeds labor and parts (other than the actual headers, plugs and wires) like heat wrap, heat shields and heat ties.

If you're quoted any less be weary.

Good luck

PS
When doing headers it is also a good idea to do plugs and wires at same time if the car has some mileage on it.

I had mine installed for $325 and they didn't do a very good job. I might as well have installed them myself figuring how many times I've pulled the headers and changed the gaskets.

A local guy around here installs them for $250 and he is awesome, but then again he does not run a shop so he doesn't really mark things up. I had mine done in a shop for $250 and it was complete chit. I ended up having to have the guy I mentioned earlier fix all the things that the exhaust shop did wrong.

I worked at Midas for 5 years and the lt1 is the most easy header install there is in my opinion. I usually charged around 250-300.

Bingo....if you have headers you will have to replace the gaskets from time to time so you may as well get use to working with them. Just get the right tools. Thin wall swivel sockets to bolt them to the heads and air wrenches to bolt up the collectors and exhaust. Use the $400- $600 to buy tools with

I had mine done for 75.00 local place, always does real good work, I kinda felt bad it took him 2 days so I gave him 95.00. That price included welding up my y-pipe to my offroadpipe/borla. So I was very happy.

“got_hp” hasn’t signed into this site since 2010.

If you click on his screen name, there's an option to send an email. That might work.
