Back in the day ya would have to chisle the tops of the pistons to get it off. What gets on there today ya can wipe off with a rag.
WHERE is the carbon?

Its bad enough that you have to scrape it off in chunks sometimes. But if something like seafoam is used on a regular basis, you wont have that much build up. Sometimes it is from burning oil though.

You guys act like Seafoam is something more than what it is. ALL it is is naptha(paint thinner) alcohol, some light oil and dye.
Naptha is a great hydrocarbon solvent and could do some cleaning if there is something to clean.
Far as running it through the intake a squirt bottle with water could do the same cleaning the mist getting sucked into the engine is like pressure washing things just have to be careful not to hydrolock.
Far as running it in the oil, look back at what I said is in that stuff, would you intentianally put paint thinner in your oil?? Berrymann's B12 Chemtool smells EXAXCTLY like laquer thinner. Moral of the story is most fuel system cleaners are NOTHING SPECIAL just common solvents with often marginal at best results.
There are some good products out there but they are harder to get ahold of and put more focus on quality over marketting so you have never heard of them.
