How to Get SES code's?!?!

I got a 1995 Z28. My SES light is comming on and i need to get it scanned. My local autozone has both OBD1 and OBD2 scan tools. But in my year it is a OBD1 with a OBD2 port. SO how do i scan it? is there any way to do this? somone told me something about using a paperclip and the SES light will blink the codes. I saw a diagram to rig up a OBD1 scanner to the 95 with the OBD2 port, but i don't know if it will work, and i don't want to mess anything up. PLEASE HELP!!!! thanks
P.S here is the diargram I saw: http://shbox.com/1/xraycable.jpg

If shoebox says it'll work, it'll work. The paper clip trick will not work.

It'll work and does not cause any problems. I used to use that all the time before I got other other equipment.
