If you're gonna go to the trouble of pulling everything down to the shortblock, why not just save 500 bucks or so and get a good port job on your stock heads then go for a bigger cam, say maybe something about the size of the 306 or a little bigger. That way when you do build your 383, you can use the ported heads with the stroker.

I'm not sure why you want to tear into the motor for just a cam swap and turn around and build a 383? I'd just stick with bolt ons, gears, and nittos before tearing into the motor. If you do every bolt on with LT's, you should see high 12's on a cold day. just a though
