How to get into 12's

Hey guys, I need to know how to get into the mid-high 12's with a 94 z28 a4. The only thing is I only want bolt-ons. I will do gears too. I would get a torque converter, but how do you install them? Also, I will use n2o, but not a major shot, probably 75 at most. Also for gears, I have an auto (not sure of current ratio) but if I get 3.73's will I need to get some type of 3" holder or do they come with gears? Any suggestions help. Thanks and God Bless

Well, if you'd like to use my car as a recipe, here's what got me into the 12's...

cold air / catback
Hooker LT's
2800 stall Vigi converter
Nitto's on back, skinnies on the front
PCMforless bolt on tune

Here's a bunch of info on mod installs, including pics/writeup on converter install..

http://zmydust.com/tech.html

Almost forgot to mention.. some suspension work helps..

I have BMR LCA's and a Hotchkis panhard rod

After reading the install, I decided I'm not gunna mess with a torque converter until I build my 383. I was wondering if this combo would get me in the 12's, and if so, about where?

Hooker LT Headers
Catback Exhaust
Lingenfelter CAI
B+M Shift Plus Kit
LT4 Hot Cam
3.73 Gears
75 Shot n2o
Drag Radials

I'm not to keen on tuning, considering I"m to computer illiterate to figure it out. Where could I take it to get it done, a dyno place? Any other suggestions? Thanks and God Bless

From what I understand Bryan at pcmforless pretty much has the hotcam tune downpat, and will only cost you $75 or so on an OBD1 car.. pcmforless.com

The converter is well worth it IMO.. especially with a cam. I cut .4 off my times with one.

But that combo should get you into the low 12's with traction imo... the converter is the missing key there

I agree do the converter. Besides headers it was my best mod. And a little weight reduction is always good.

You would easily be in the 12's with those mods. I would say mid 12's

To do 12's on ll motor, Do a full exhaust. Headers back. Cold air and rear gears, that should get you there with a good 60ft to help you

I am in the 12s...it isnt that easy..but I also have a M6...U will need a torque converter no doubt...but if you do all motor u will need a good intake, headers with full exhaust, gears, drag radials, and a cam wouldnt hurt....Now I ran a 12.7 @115 with all that stuff...I have a ram air intake, hooker longtubes, 3 inch y pipe no cats, hooker cat back, 4.10 gears, 315 nittos, cc306, comp r lifters, cc roler rockers and springs...I know I can get lower but traction is a issue...U might not even need a full exhaust just get a cut out like me and open it whenever.

those mods should easily get you 12's. If you want a good dyno tune, check out Carolina Auto Masters and ask for Jeff Creech. He's a prominent member of the local Carolina F-body club.

How do you get in the 12's? Take your car to Louisiana or Houston, Texas in the dead of winter(for everyone else) while the DA is -2500 and run it down the track. Seems to work for everyone else.

The convertor install really isn`t that bad. Just make sure you don`t snap the bolts off on the flex plate to the convertor. I did and I thought about setting the car on fire and rolling it down a hill.
