how do you get the !#$& fuel rail off?
first, I cannot remove the fuel lines anyway. I have a fuel disconnect tool set, and if there was 9 billion dollars cash waiting for me to figure out a way to make this tool work on this car, I would not be able to make it work for 9 billion dollars. The tool is too long, and the cowl is too low.
Second... okay, so I give up on removing the fuel lines. I'll just take the rail off and move it, lines and all, to the side. That would be nice if I could get the fuel rail to come off. What do you need a hoist and chain to get this thing up? It wiggles back and forth, but for the life of me it will not come up. I've used two hands/arms with all the force I can muster and it just doesn't move in an upward fashion. What am I missing?
BTW, I would also like to say that the Haynes manual is going to be used as firewood when this install is done. What a useless piece of crap. Its instructions say "pull fuel rail out"... WTF?!.... Wow, what braintrusts they have down there that give such good, explicit instructions. What's the point of a manual telling you how to do something if it doesn't tell you HOW to do ANYTHING?....
Help help help. I'm pretty close to being ready to just sell this car as-is and buy a Metro to drive to work. What is this, week 5, 6 of the cam install? I hate this car.

Gee, I had no problem at all with removing my fuel rails...Oh wait...I had the intake manifold on the bench.
Seriously...Once you take the 4 retaining bolts out of the rails, the o-rings on the injectors hold them in the intake really good. I had to pry them out with a flat blade screwdriver. All 8 injectors will stay on the rails...They have clips holding them to it.

There's another post running right now on this same topic. As I posted there, I could not get the rails apart by just inserting the tool and pulling straight back. What I did was push the two lines together, then insert the tool in while holding the lines together, then pulled them apart. I had to work at it for a while.
Look at my post!!!! What brand disconnect tool are you using? I used two different brands. The one that worked was made by Lisle and the part number is 37000. The other one was by Powerbuilt. You can tell just by looking at the two that Lisle was much better in design.
Grendal, to remove the actual fuel rails just remove the four screws and just pry them off. The only thing keeping them stuck on is the pressure and the o-rings which just takes a certain amount of effort to remove them. I had a small crow bar that the stuck between the rails and manifold and used some force.

You should be able to pull the fuel rail off after you remove the 4 bolts on the top. As far as the fuel disconnect tool. The one I used was about as long as maybe a 1/2 combination wrench so maybe you should loook for a different brand.
good luck

What kind of tools did you guys get? I asked for a fuel line removal tool and napa gave me a little plastic piece that looked like a nipple. I just shoved it up under the line and the line popped off. It was simple. I just took off my fuel rails to fix my intake leak and yea my haynes manual took a beating. Bastards said they would just come right off but I had to bloody my knuckles and pry with abotu 10 different tools before I got the fricken thing off.
Yeah, you just buy the cheapy little plastic disconnect disc at Autozone (that's where I got mine). Side it over the fuel line, pull up and it pops right off. Very easy (gotta slide the rubber guards up and out of the way).
As for pulling the rail....be a man, give it a tug. Mine had been in there for 90k miles and 8 YEARS before I ever touched it, and she still came out. Just give her a yank.
