I think this person meant that if you jump the starter and it works, the problem is not your starter. Or he meant that if you "bump" start it (manual transmission necessary) then it could be the starter.

To remove the Y pipe:

--Disconnect electrical connectors for the O2 sensors located in the Y pipe.
--Remove 3 nuts from each flange (both sides) where the Y pipe connects to each exhaust manifold. TIP: Soak the nuts in penetrating oil like PB Blaster first.
--Remove the bolts and nuts (2 pair) for the mounting bracket at the back of the catalytic converter.
--Disconnect the two pairs of nuts and bolts from the flange at the output side of the catalytic converter.
--Remove Y pipe with catalytic converter.

Hope this helps!

Jeff,

I could be wrong but I didn't think the 94 and 95's were that different and I got my starter out witout removing my Y-pipe, is it mandatory for yours?

Its been a while so I am not sure now. I know everything is easier on that side with it removed and with air tools, I don't think twice about removing the Y pipe.

I was just kinda answering his question about how to get it out. Wasn't really thinking about if it had to come out. I seem to recall it was necessary. Old age must be kiccking in!

Not all that different.

From shoebox, a table of year-to-year differences:
