Re: how do i jump the starter???

What are you refering too? Running the starter directly without the key or what?

If that's it then hook a wire up directly to it instead of going through the switch...

Re: how do i jump the starter???

get a switch and connect two wires to it. Connect one end of the wire to the big lug on the back of the starter and the other to the small lug. then take a long jumper cable and connect it to the positive battery terminal and the other end to the large lug on the back of the starter. be careful lot to allow the jumper cable to touch the small lug or anything other than the large lug. flip the switch and they starter should start to crank the motor. If you wanna use an outside battery you can do that too by connecting that jumper cable to the outside battery rather than the battery you have in the car and hook up another jumper cable from the body of the starter to the negative terminal of the outside battery..why do you need to do this?

Sorry dude, there is no way to start an auto with a dead starter.. When the guy told you to jump it he more then likely ment jumpstart or popping the clutch, but A4's can't do that...

Really? I thought that you could, but it just wasn't practical?

Yes, your talking about putting a jumper wire to get around the ingition system on a working starter, this guy is trying to start the car with a dead starter from the way I read it...

Nope you can't because if you think about it, the manual tranny is a direct link to the spinning wheels so if in gear and you pop the clutch it will rotate the motor would rotate just like the starter rotating it. But on an automatic car there is no direct link, in and auto there are no real gears in there it is all an assortment of bands and clutches that rely on fluid pressure to apply the correct ratio, ie gear. And that fluid pressure is generated bu the pump that is connected to the converter that is attached to the motor, so if the motor is not spinning then the pump won't pump and the tranny doesn't hold the gear. meaning you can't push start an auto tranny car...

probably not because it is rather simple, just disconnect the battery, disconnect the wires, unbolt it and do the reverse for install...
