How do i fix this alternator belt squeaking?
My alternator belt or the alternator itself is squeaking. My car is loud and i can hear it over the engine at idle. My uncle works at the chevy place and he put some grease looking stuff on the inside of the belt and that seemed to help for a while. How do i fix this? Thanks.

Well you need to find out if its the belt or the pulley. If its the pulley replacing the belt won't do anything for it. Stick your head next to the alternator pulley when its running and listen to it.

According to the original post, the noise "got better" when a "grease" was applied, that's why I don't suspect the pulleys. It's a common problem for the belts to cause a squeal. Pick up a Goodyear Gatorback belt. It's a better design that has cross slits to allow the belt to run over tight radius turns (like the alternator pulley) without generating as much heat to accelerate belt fatigue.
