How do I change the air filter?

This is probably a stupid question but I am used to just getting my air filter changed at wal mart and never have on my camaro (recently bought). I have a 96 camaro z28 (stock except for the muffler I beleive) and brought it in to get the oil filter and air filter changed but wal mart said they could not change the air filter because it was a closed air intake system. I was told that I have to bring it to the dealership but that seems a little too much for something like this.
I can not tell you what type of air intake it is exactly because its in the shop right now, but I am pretty sure it is stock. I had ran over a tire tread and it broke off a piece of the air intake and was dying everytime I was idle. I should have it Friday if the part comes in. We were hit by Hurricane Rita though and everything is still a bit slow, my car's been on a list for a week or so no clue if it will see work tomorrow or not. Thanks guys for the help.

Re: How do I change the air filter?

as you look into the engine bay, you will look to the right side (drivers side) by the fender towards the front of the car. you will see a black box hooked up to a intake elbow which leads air into the intake manifold. there will be a screw clamp at the base of the intake tube which makes a snug fit to the box and the tube. loosen that up, which should be a flat head screw driver. pull the black box straight up and unclip the polished clips on the side of the box. take notice to the way you take the filter out and put the new filter in the same way. then do everything backwards. very simple!

Ever look in the owner's manual? It shows how to replace the filter. If you don't have a manual, you can get a pdf version from my site.
