how can i turn the crank if....

how can i turn the crank if....

the hub and everything is off?iam putting my motor back together and can trun the crank to time my motor?i had the bolt that goes into the crank in thier n was gunna tighten it n try to turn the crank bnut was afraid of the bolt snaping or sumthing.. let me know thanks 94z

you can turn the cam...but as long as the bolt goes all the way in and is bottomed out it shouold be fine to turn the motor with it...

but i need to get the crank sprocket even with the cam sprocket(the dots).if i move the cam it wont do anything to move the crank sprocket.

You can use your bolt as long as you use plenty of washers (don't let it bottom out in the crank, but make sure you have plenty of thread contact). Also be sure to take out the spark plugs when doing this. It will make the engine much easier to turn over.

I've used at 1/2" drive socket (instead of washers) to provide the space needed so that the bolt doesn't bottom out. Just giving you another option. IOW, you can do it, but take the provided precautions.

yes it would be good to keep it from bottoming out i was getting at having alot of thread contact...and if the plugs are in take them out...
