How big of a PITA to change evap?

Well I got the A/C checked out the other day and was told I need a new evaporator. The place quoted me roughly $400 just in labor to replace it. My question is, how big of a task is this job? I'd like to think I could do it myself if possible. I know I'd have to take it in to get it evac'd/charged afterwords but I dont have the funds right now to get have a shop do this. Any advice/opinions are greatly appreciated.

To make it short, The Dash has to be removed or at least set back then remove the a/c box
