I passed the sniffer Rollers with the Hot Cam with no emission controls on the car either. However that was before I had a 3600 stall to really load up the car...

I love the Hot Cam but I am ready to go bigger I think. If you choose a Hot Cam you wont be disappointed if that is all you want. I want to go alot faster so I probably will go even bigger then the XE 244/230. I think the XE is definately a proven performer so you wont go wrong either. I guess it is all up to you.
Go for the XE....
If you pass emissions, let me know..

It sounds like both will pass emmissions, but is that
with a custom tune? I have heard of SES lights on
both w/o a tune. Besides, I would need to know I'm
getting a lot more that 30 rwhp to make a move up
to a lopey cam.

Is that so? My stock head times beg to differ . I think it's a pretty good match if you ask me. My car ain't no dyno queen..

I also think that the 218/224 is better suited for stock heads. The two cams make very similar power numbers, which goes to say that the 224/230 may be restricted by the heads. On a car with heads, the 224/230 is a clear winner because it makes better use of the flow from the heads. The XE224/230 is a great cam, but I also think it's slightly too big for stock heads.

Reasons I like the XE218/224

Less overlap, which equals better gas milage and better emmisions.

TQ curve is shifted a little lower in the RPM band, leading to a little better daily driver characteristics. A shift point of about 6200 RPM works great with the 218/224.

Makes great power with stock heads and mid length headers(343HP/343TQ)

Has better vacuum at idle which means better power brakes.

Javier, your time is very good, but is helped a LOT by your 60' time. Your MPH (a better measure of HP) is the same as the 218/224 guys.

Dan

I would have said almost exactly what Stereomandan said.

One note, I'm NOT knocking the 224/230. It's a great cam. I'm just saying if you're staying on stock heads, the 218/224 would do you better.

My thoughts are this.

1)The smaller cams like Hotcam,218/224 are both great for stock headed cars for power upgrade and driveability(gas mileage and power brakes etc.)

2)The 224/230 is going to sacrafice some of the above but still perform great and it's still there for later upgrades.

I really don't want to buy a cam for now and later. Yeah you can always sell the smaller but you always lose money. You can keep the smaller and assure yourself that you'll always have it for a later LT1 buy (like that will really happen) and let it collect a little dust. I recently spoke with a gentleman from TPIS and he recomended the ZZ409 I think it was but don't quote me on that. I do know the specs to be 226/226 @.050 and .525/.525 and 112LSA. This cam was recomended for a stock headed car and was guaranteed to perform well and maintain good driveable TQ and HP with a CAMMY sound(that's always important). Having said that IMHO, I think that the 224/230 will be fine. I am personally considering the 227/233 from combination motorsports but I will likely do a little porting of my own b4 the install.

later and good luck
