hotcam vs cc305
the cc305 makes a more horsepower but I belive it is not emissions leagal. The hot cam is a good cam also but some say it is not as good as a 305 or a 306. They both are good cams to toss in your engine even though its over 100k miles. You might want to think about changing out your RR when you do the cam install and the springs to go with the correct cam you will be putting in. The hotcam is also emissions leagal and can be tuned to your specifications so its all up to you on which one you like.

In theory the Hot cam would actually be more difficult to pass a smog test due to its 112 LS. A narrower LS will have more over lap and allow a dirtier tail pipe emmissions than that of a wider 114LS.
I am currently running the CC305 in my 100k mile LT1. AS soon as I get a better tune on it I am going to take it down to the smog shop and see if it will pass CA strict Dyno testing

you may need a convertor. I did w/ the hot cam kit alone.
Also, w/ the hot cam, you can get away w/o a tune. Usually. I am not sure if the 305 is as well-mannered w/o tuning.
Good luck! Depends what YOU want...

Technically neither one is CA smog legal. However both of them have passed smog in Ca before.

I would like to know if you pass or not too. If you pass i might have to think about a 305 instead of a hotcam. Give me a heads up.
As gregg said - hot cam is a good pick cause it comes as a complete package (well tested by board members) at a really good price.
To me, that fact was worth, maybe giving up, a couple of Hp at 6000 rpm.
If you don't mind mixing and matching parts - there are better cams out there then the 2 you mentioned, that you may want to consider - depends on current and planned mods.
With over 100K on the car you may run into some cam bearing issues.

Well more hp and safer for the engien are two diffrent thing, not changeing the cam is going to by safter for the engien.
The CC305 is a bigger cam then the hotcam, and dosen't cost very much more (if any), if you buy the hotcam in 3 months your going to wish you bought the CC305.
Just remember, when your are trying to suck more power out of your engien it is going to put it under for stress, and there for shorten the life.

220 / 230, .510 / .510 114 LSA = cc305
218 / 228, .492 / .492 112 LSA = hotcam
lift numbers change with different size rockers, most people that I know swith 1.6's if they do a hotcam with changes that cam to:218 / 228, .525 / .525 112 LSA ...without the rockers the cc305 will make considerably more power than the hotcam and it will be a lower power band.

someone else from Roseville. Have you smogged your CC305 yet on the Dyno Emissions tester?
