hotcam in skippin like crazy ideas?

I just install the hot cam kit in my car.I just started it but it ran like crap then as it got warmer it had got worse.Acted like the wires were in the wrong spot but double checked there ok.It smells really rich, its a 95 with the vented opti could this be caused by miss aligned opti? cause im not sure if i put it in the right slot. This is has a brand new opti plugs and wires

Valve adjustment, plug wires, plug gap,and opti can do it.

Did you put injectors in the car or mess with the fuel pressure? You need to learn how to use punctuation. It's hard to read your post. And yes, a misalligned opti can cause some serious problems. Better check it to make sure.

What year- what other changes did you make before or after the cam swap? My own hot camed, 93, recently installed, runs like you describe. I have just returned home and have to find some one that can make this car run PROPERLY.

Did you get atleast a mailorder tune? Did you goto bigger injectors? If so the PCM needs to be reprogrammed for that. Maybe your car is different, but there is no way in hell my opti could be alined wrong

Did you get the timing chain gears correctly mechanically aligned to the timing marks (crank and cam gear)? If you're off one tooth that could be the problem.

You need to have a qualified person with a computer to scan readings[ Engine temperature sensor to CPU, both 02 sensors, fuel pressure and wiring.any of these will be suspects and probably more than one sensor is slow or faulty. Good Luck

I still say to actually get the cam dowel to engage the opti enough to spin it and fire would take a 2x4 and a hammer forcing it on. It can be misaligned and fire a cylinder or two but it won't stay on... nor will you be able to bolt it flush onto the engine.

This is on a vented opti of course.

if you dont have a tune... that is my guess. My car runned TERRIBLE after the hot cam until the tune came in the mail. It barely idled at stop lights...

In all do respect you are absolutely wrong sir... I have witnessed them put on wrong and actually run. They don't come back off. And are not hard to put on wrong. I have probly installed 50 optis in the past year, and know for a fact they can and will go on wrong.

I'll take your word for it.. although I've presented a cam outside the car to the narrow slot on a vented opti and it will absolutely not go in without extreme force.

So unless it's sorta catching a lip and staying engaged I can't see how it would go into an actual slot..

But hey, I've never done it, and done quite a few optis recently myself

To the original poster.. if the opti just "popped on" and it sat flush, it's most likely on right.
