So i'll neeed a tune & a LT4 knock mod after the cam install?
What will that run me?

"Izod" buy more aggressive what did you have in mind?
Well for one the hotcam is far from agressive. I guess its a good daily driver cam and you can see some decent gains from it but there are a bunch of cams out like that now. Plus the cam with the 1.6 rr's makes 525 lift. The springs that come in it only support 525 so its just barely enough. You can get a cam kit from Combination Motorsports for only a $100 more with a more aggressive cam. Like the XE 218/224 or the 224/230 with Comp Cams Pro Mag 1.6 rr's (the best you can get) and valve springs that support up to 600 lift. Any of the 2 cams I just named would make anywhere from 5-15 more RWHP than the hotcam.

I always like to put in my .02 re cam size, so...

There are cams even smaller than the Hot Cam that can put you in the low 12s and even into the 11s.

You might see higher RWHP from larger cams, but at what RPM?

It's not so much the size of the cam as how things work together and whether or not you care if the thing is a daily driver.

As far as dragging, no matter what cam you have, if you can't hook, you can't book.

With a small cam with tons of low-end and a good hook, you might even best a big cam by the traps, even if your MPH is slower.JMHO

well the key to sucess at the track, etc, is just what you said - making sure everything works together perfectly. planning your mods (esp. when going internal) will make your life much easier, and put together a faster car. good pnt. bubba (too often forgotten).

The power range on my XE224/230 cam is from 2500-6600. It pulls like a raped ape all the way through.

Yes it does matter the way things work together. If you have a headers and everything already the stuff should work fine along with some proper tuning. You wouldnt wanna put a big cam or even the hot cam on a car with stock manifolds. That doesnt work good together.

Yes you need some good sticky tires to hook. I couldnt agree more. But if you are gonna pay that amount of money for the hot cam kit and in a month later wish you went bigger why not save a $100 more and go with a little more aggressive cam. Just because you go one step bigger and get better rr's and springs doesnt mean the car cant be streetable. Just my .02

Bubba,

Very valid points but it's not easy getting a good hook when your 7.5" Rear end is paper thin. I personally prefer to lose the race by a Few tenths and trap 4-5 mph higher then win a race with a lower trap but that's just me. My car would still be the faster car.. he just hooked up better.

Your right. But still not as good as the CC Pro Mags. Thats not really my point though. The springs kinda suck. They support just enough lift for the cam. I have heard of people having problems with them if you turn to high of a RPM and they had to get them shimmed. Why not get a better cam and springs you'll never have to replace again.

Thanks.
In a nutshell im looking for more power spread even across the whole RPM range, for my daily driver.
I dont plan on doing a cam untill i get headers & exhaust, the hot cam just sounded like a nice beginer cam for a mild daily driver.

Im sure it may be possible that there is another company that makes a 224/230 cam but the Comp Cam XE 224/230 is a fairly newer grind that makes the torque curve more even instead of just dropping off.

My Hotcam has a damn nice lope to it. Not sure what some of you guys have heard. As far as the springs that come with it, i've heard the rumors too, but i've turned over 6000rpm with no problems. I am running the LT4 ED timing chain too.
