That is scary...
As you can see my Hot Cam is just killing my performance.... Where did they come up with that?? The Hot Cam was designed by GM for the 350...

i have an opinion and its the same as everyone elses. i laughed when i saw tpis's cam kit for $4000 to make 400hp. you can make a 400hp LT1 for about half that. and thats being generous.

That is freaking crazy. Everyone in the fbody community knows that the LT4 hotcam produces very well and is definitely not to big.

The hot was horrible for me.....15 MPG on the highway.****ty off idle torque. What a mess.I switched to the ZZ-409 and now I can get 21-22 MPG on the highway and cruise @ 70 in 6th. Much better in my opinion, but seems like everyone has a different experience.

The HotCam was designed for use in the LT4..it didnt work for the design peramiters since the lowRPM efficiency was poor and it was put into the aftermarket like alot of designs are...look at the Ram-Jet. The 400 HP TPIS kit is 50 state legal. When it came out, there was no such thing and still isn't. The internet gives people this big huge ***** to talk about people and companies that otherwise wouldn;t say anything.....I wasn't happy with a Hot Cam and know of many people with the same feeling. People buy it because it's cheap. TPIS always says if you have questions or you'r not happy, call us and we'll help or return it. Never any questions asked. ITs also great because theya re local for me. Don't have to talk to some idiot that knows nothing about how an engine works, just that SLP uses them or GM sells it so it must be the best. Just venting.....

"I wasn't happy with a Hot Cam and know of many people with the same feeling."

Where are all of these people, so far you are the first one who has had a bad experience with it. I understand that after time many people think the cam is not large enough for them, but the quality and performance gains are proven time and time again. Not to mention that "cheap" factor is real nice on college kids and those that get gripped out by the wife! The point is that the Hotcam is by no means too large for a 350 and is very often referred to as the "baby" cam for a LT1.

yah.seems to work different for people depending on what they're looking for. I knocked 3 tenths of the 1/4 , .6 sec. off my time at BIR and picked up 6-7 MPG on the highway. I'm reall happy with the 409 as of now.

The dude is smokin a doober for sure.

I'm happy with the Hot Cam. I knew what I wanted, what I was getting, & how much I was going to pay. The HC kit is OK by me.

Ok, I'll Go with the Hot Cam, But is there anything or formula for the Hot Cam that wakes it up alot, certain bolt ons etc:
Aslo can you run a Hot Cam with stock manifolds or is it to resrictive on the flow. How much was the average HP Gain from your Hot Cam install??

as with any performance oriented cam-
you want to get air in and out as fast as possible

CAI, headers and catback are a MUST- so i s tuning
ported heads are a VERY good idea

a converter and/or gears arealso a great idea

See .sig.

I get 24.5mpg with 4.10's at 70 mph on the highway.

50/50 mix yields 20mpg.

LA Traffic + fwy driving = 18mpg.

I couldn't be happier. No off idle problems, engine revs very fast, pulls all the way to my 6300RPM cutoff. Car will also pull in 6th from 1400RPM up.

With my exhaust combination, everyone that has heard my car has praised its lopiness, and the best part is, to order fast food, I have to turn off the car for them to hear me

While there are cams that make more power for the LT1 (XE grinds) the hotcam is one hell of a nice package with no brainpower needed as far as springs, etc...

You really do need programming to make the cam driveable though. At 6k RPM, my 24 lb/hr injectors hit the 80% duty cycle, if I were going to run a hotter cam, I'd probably want 26 or 30 lb/hr injectors.
