Hot Cam Kit Aftermath

I know I'm a little late in getting around to this, but i thought I'd share my perspective of my results of the installation of the Hot Cam Kit and some other goodies.

Some side info.
I had the Hot Cam Kit installed with the headers, Plugs and wires, trans cooler, tranny mount, LCAs + RLBs, 3.73s with torsen carrier. IT was done on the side of a Chevy Dealer for $950

I just got that car back friday, ran into some problems during installation. The slight miss i had before became a lot greater and more noticeable, affected the idle and driveability. Decided to get a new Vented Opti and Distributer, solved the problem.

Getting behind the wheel of this new beast was INCREDIBLE! Tha unmistakeable "lopey" cam sound was definitely there. At 600 RPM, the thing sounds like an old carbed 350 I didn't notice a loss of any low end torque like some ppl said i may (although the 3.73s went in at the same time, so it may have made up for it) U can definitely feel the difference, very strong mid-range RPM performance. The LCAs and RLB made a huge difference as well, i can feel the increase in traction, instead of sliding all over the road, the car holds straight as the tires try to grip. (Nice "chirp" sound into second gear from a stop, almost like a manual )

However, I have had a few difficulties that I'm going to straighten out in the coming weeks. 1st. The brakes feel a lot different, u gotta step on that pedal harder due to the vacuum difference. however, i'm throwing a "Brake" light on the dash, think i might be low on brake fluid. 2nd. The car is running REALLY RICH. I am in desperate need of a dyno tuning. Punching it from a roll, it bogs down before hitting WOT and the car seems to fall on it's face. 3rd. I had COLD air blowing out of my heat, which was fixed by some new fittings during after installation. However, after a few hours of driving, the cold air returned

That's all for now, thanx for reading, and i hope this was of some help to those of u looking into the Hot Cam kit, i think after tuning, it will be definitely be worth it.

To the Hot cam experts, I don't want to seem too paranoid, bu will a good dyno tune cure all these fuel problems? I can feel this car wants to rip when i step on it, but it's definitely spitting fuel like crazy. Thanx for the feedback, i'll post some numbers when i get this thing set up. peace

Timing and fuel should clean your car up big time if done right, and there are no exaust leaks.

You have air in your coolant lines. If you pop your hood while ur car is running, there are 2 bleeder valves which can be seen from the top. Open those up and put a paper towel underneath so nothing gets on the opti. Alot of air should come out of the bleeders, when you feel ready(after a few mins or when air stops), close them, and hopefully you will have some heat.

My car didn't seem really fast with it wasn't tuned. Tuning did make a big difference.

Tuning, Tuning, Tuning and Tuning. That should cure it.

As for the cold air, just like what was said above, you have air in the system that needs to be purged.

Thanx for easing my nerves about the tuning everyone. I will be taking the car to the dyno tune in the next couple of weeks. I'm very curious to see the numbers I will be putting out. I will let u know my results. I hope the MPG improves a little from the tuning, I'm only getting about 140 miles on a full tank of gas!
