Question Hot Cam Kit

There is a Hot Cam Kit for sale on GMpartsdirect.com. GM PART # 12480002
It comes with the 1.6 RR's, LT4 hot cam, and more. Has anyone had any experience with this kit. It's only $500, I heard it gives you Somewhere around 30-40 extra RWHP. Does anyone know about these figures. Also it says "This kit does not include roller tappets. See valve lifter section 0.459 for the lifter kit." What does this mean? Also how easy is it to do this conversion? Is there anything in Particular I need to know? I do have a mechanic, but like to make it as easy as possible for him. Any comments or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

Re: Hot Cam Kit

I Just put it in. cam pulls hard, but now i wish i went bigger xe224/230. the roller rockers look nice, but can only go up to .575. The cam barely lopes. I have more power but i aslo did someother things at the same time. The kit includes everything you need to do the cam swap except the gaskets( intake manifold, valve seals). a lot of people reuse the roller rockers on the car. I would get new stocker ones just to be safe.

Re: Hot Cam Kit

How much faster did it seem? This kit is just very well priced, I almost dont want to pay more for the little more horsepower. I well eventually go with the AFR heads and a new cam so I'm not to worried about it. Does it pull a lot harder?

Re: Hot Cam Kit

down low it seemed the same but in the upper and mid rpm that's where i felt the difference, i also have long tube headers a electric waterpump, three angle valve job, tuning by madz28. It's a pretty good budget kit. you can find used hotcams on here for cheap then get some comp r lifters and a spring set from combination motorsports for about the same. the springs are better and the comp roller rockers are better. they will allow for an upgraded cam later on. the car hauls i beat an ls1 ss. but like i said theres better out there for a little more.

Re: Hot Cam Kit

How hard was it, did you like the power gains?

Re: Hot Cam Kit

We'll see about the power gains. I'm going to dyno it before and after tuning.

My install took me 4 or 5 days. But I'm tedious and nothing gets overlooked. I wasted all kinds of time cleaning bolts n' stuff. Nothing went back on the car without being cleaned, repaired, replaced, polished or painted.

I have pics of the whole install on Page 6 of my Cardomain site in my sig.

Re: Hot Cam Kit

I polished it myself, along with the AIR check valves, strut tower bar, hood latch brace, hood hatch brackets, thermostat housing, fuel rail and others I can't think of right now..

Why, ya need somethin' polished? Give me a hollar, I do it for cheap.
