hot cam?

I got the motor out of my 95z28 and im about to put an lt4 hot cam in. Ive heard of people putting the lt4 knock module in as well with these swaps. They said that sometimes the stock module will retard the timing and cost you horsepower. Is there any truth to this and will it work in my car.

the cam alone probably won't dictate using a lt4 knock module. It is going to headers or roller rockers that make more noise which can cause the lt1 knock module to think it is hearing knock and retard timing. also going to a xfi type cam might make some extra valve train noise. But having said this a lt4 knock module is a good mod, and if you can get your hands on one I would. they seem to be getting harder to come by.

The LT4 knock module is specifically tuned to filter and eliminate the knock sensor signal caused by the noise from the Crane Gold 1.6x RR's that were used in the LT4 engine.

just went to the speed shop today and im going to go with a cam from comp instead, and I do have the 1.6 rockers, and pacesetter headers. Is there anyway of knowing whether my module is retarding the timing in my car, and will the lt4 knock module work in my 95 z28 no problem.

A tuner or a mail order tune can make your ECU less sensitive to false knock, which you will need if you use a larger than stock cam.

Have Fun.

Use a scanner to observe knock retard under varous operating conditions. That will tell you if you have a problem.
