my dad installed a GMMG a week or two ago on his 02 ws6...i wasnt impressed at all and told him i was glad it was his $700+ and not mine!
Re: Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
Well maybe if you heard mine on an LT1 with LT's and a mufflex ORY you'd change your mind. But it only cost me $500 and was well worth every penny since I had 2 muffler shop guys chase me down in my city just to ask and drool over my exhaust. But hey, thats just me.

I've honestly never heard a better muscle car sound at WOT than that set-up on my '02 M6 Z28.
A lot louder too.
I've actually heard the GMMG on an LT1 with Mac headers in person (met up with another guy here on the board) and heard it both with and without a cat. They do sound somewhat different, but they both sound just as good in their own ways IMHO. The LT1 is a little deeper/rougher with it while the LS1 is much more defined...
Re: Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
o man i dont know why im gonna get into this well., yes GMMG is aweome even with stock manifolds and catts, i hear it on an 01 SS a few weeks ago with LTs and cats and its absolutley amazing,
anyways, on manifolds and cats the hooker is not very loud, slightly louder than stock but nto much , ive heard it on a 95 z with gutted cat and midlength headers and it sounded really good and have a nice loud rumble in teh mid to high rpms, he got many compliments
your prolly gonna get LTs for the car if so do it and gut ur cats and it will sound much better
good choice on teh GMMG BTW for ur LS1

Now guys, im not saying that GMMG is a bad exhaust system, i just wasnt impressed with the sound that he got out of it with his otherwise stock ws6 for the price he paid.
Re: Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
I live on the west side of Chicago(Melrose Park), which shouldn't be too far from you. If you want to hear what that exhaust will sound like with headers and no cat then I'd be glad to meet up with you some time and let you check it out. Personally I love the sound. It doesn't drone at all, but it sounds absolutely awesome at WOT, especially when you shift at 6,200 RPM. Let me know if you'd like to meet up some time. I'd really like to get to know some fellow f-body enthusiasts up here.
Re: Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
Hate to say this, but if you want cheap and dont mind maybe sacrificing 5hp at most, it's really hard to beat a 40 series Flowmaster for sound. It'll be about like a GMMG in terms of loudness, and have a definite tone at idle. This is the 2 chamber, not the 3 chamber 80 series, so it will flow pretty well. I love the way my friend's 94 T/A(TransAmGT94) sounds with this muffler, no cat, and BBK's. The only thing that sounds better is a 79 Camaro with true duals and H pipe dumped before the axle with 40 series.
