Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
I just recently purchased the '95 Z28 in my sig and damn, is that thing quiet with the Hooker muffler! Once the car is fully-warmed up, it is barely any different than the stock muffler at idle (cruising is kinda quiet too). And I honestly don't think it is at all loud at WOT. It has a descent tone and sounds best around 2,000rpms, but I guess I'm just use to my LS1 which is a LOT louder at any rpm right now...
Time for something much louder...

Re: Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
I have a 95 Z with magnaflow cat back with a gutted cat and stock exhaust manifolds and its a reeal nice sound....not that agressive off idle but once I hit the gas it screams good. what kinda of sound are you after? a screamer or rumbler or both?
Re: Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
I dunno if it makes a difference but do you have just the muffler or the entire cat-back?? I remember before I had headers the catback sounded awesome had a nice rumble at idle and screams at WOT. Now that I have headers that thing sounds real mean
Re: Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
Mine is decently loud too. Everyone has a different idea of what "loud" is though. I like the tone a lot and the car does scream at WOT that's for sure.
Re: Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
It's the whole cat-back system. It's honestly barely louder than the stock muffler at idle, but I guess it just doesn't sound that "loud" to me because there is no interior noise with it. And my LS1 is so much louder and more aggressive sounding right now compared to it. But I'm sure if I had someone drive the car down the street for me I probably wouldn't think it is as quiet as it currently is. It does have a pretty nice tone however. Headers would obviously make it sound better/louder too...
Not sure what I'll go with, but it won't be hard to decide since I've practically heard them all...
BTW, to the guy who asked, I'm in the NW suburbs about 45 minutes outside of Chicago...

Re: Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
I have the setup in my sig. My Hooker screams for mercy on anything over 2000 rpms. Highway driving is great because there is no resonence. You are right about the no noise in the cab. Quiet inside the cab once you hit 6th gear at a cruising speed of 85 miles an hour (running 1700 rpm). I like a quiet car on the highway, but once you get on it, people know you are coming. If you want to hear my car strait out of the header, click on the website in the sig. My name is the first on the list, click it. Then click where it says "306"
Enjoy. I love my Hooker.

Re: Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
That is one of the best parts of the hooker, you can drive it on the hwy for long trips and not hear it. But when you get on it it screams, once u put headers on it will get even louder.
Re: Hooker cat-back is way too quiet
before you go taking your catback off, hold up a sec. that is one of the best sounding catbacks i've heard for an lt1. mine was very quiet too with manifolds and cat. BUT once the manifolds were off and the cat was gutted, it really opened that thing up. it was screaming after headers and gutted cat. i have a friend who has the hooker catback on his 94. he has shorty headers, no cat, and a hotcam kit. that thing screams at WOT and sings a nice loud tune in city driving!!! it's all about gettin the manifolds off and getting the cat gutted, or high flow cats. this really makes for a great sounding catback. very nice

It's still way too quiet at idle for me, however, I'm going to have someone else drive it down the street so I can finally hear it under load soon...
