Holley TB owners in here.

I've heard people having to adjust their TB's and not getting the correct voltage. How do you check the TPS? Would I notice it if my car wasn't running right? Right now it idles at about 1k and I have no issues with throttle response or anything. Oh yeah its a 52mm.

thanks.

Ok

I had to have my tps adjusted for the holes bigger.... On the holley the holes are off which makes you idle low so whats you do get the tps drill the hole bigger and then start adjusting, get a voltmeterand see at wide open throttle. wot is should be at 4.4volts and above and at idle close to 1 volt i have mine st .65 youll get it when you start adjusting...

Well my gas doesn't stick and my idle stays right about 900 to 1k all the time. Goes up to like 1100 with the AC running. Where do I stick the voltmeter to test the bugger?????? I think the car runs excellent, but if I can get it better that would be great.

The gas on mine only stuck until I adjusted the cruise control cable properly.

WIth the key on, but the car not started.
Test the voltagae across the black and blue wires coming out of it. Do you have a Haynes manual? I pushed sewing needles though the plastic covering and put the leads to those. Of course, don't leave them in there when you are done. If the voltage goes up as you apply throttle, I would say it is ok. Just play with it a little. If it "tops out" or "bottoms out" then you may have to enlongate the holes with a Dremel or somwthing to get the voltage just rigth. I beleive anything from .05-.07 at idel to 5.+ at WOT is fine. Get someone to help you. Have them press the gas pedal rather than cycleing the thorttle blades by hand. Make sure they are opening all the way, also.

Not sure if this will help or not, but when I put my holley 52mm throttlebody on I had a high idle. The only way I could get it to idle down was to floor it real quick then it returned to normal. I took it to the local shop and it was $68.00 to fix but here is what the description on the reciept said:

"Checked for high idle. Scan & checked for codes - no codes. Checked TPS allowable range 0.3-0.9. Vechicle is 0.78. Has auto zeroing TPS. Checked TPS w/ warm engine running & in gear. Running 0.74 in gear. Went through reset procedure. Swept test TPS. Test drove w/ scanner. Idle 660 to 680 IAC 11-13 - all ok."

S.J.S.:

Is your PCM program stock? If so, your idle is too high. A4 should idle 550rpm in gear, 650rpm in neutral. Before you fiddle with the TPS voltage, you need to get the idle speed (back off the throttle stop screw slowly) and the IAC counts correct (20 - 40). You need a scanner to check the IAC counts.

Only then would you look at TPS voltage. As noted in the post above, the PCM will accept any value from 0.20-0.90V, and baseline that as the "0%" throttle position (TPP). But some people feel they get better results with the TPS voltage in the 0.50-0.67 range. To make any corrections you would have to slot the screw holes.

Hey Fred thanks......but Bryan at PCM did the tune. I did the OBD1 conversion. I gave him all my specs and this is what I got. You're telling me that the car should idle at 550?????? That seems low. Right now it idles like at 1k and seems okay. I dont know, you guys are the experts. What should I do then?

In Fred's response he mentioned his numbers were for a stock PCM. In your sig you mention "huge cam" Bryan most likely bumped your idle up some because of the cam. That coupled with the factory tach typically reads ~200 rpm high could be why you have high idle numbers.

When I put my Holley on my idle voltage was in the .2 range. .26 volts I believe is what it was initially. Since I had no codes and a 0 to 100% TPP, I just left it like that for several months and no problems. I then got bored one day and decided to just stick it more to the middle of the band... still had a 0 to 100% TPP so all I did was waste my time

I believe more of an issue with older Holley throttle bodies are a weak spring and a quality control issue with the tolerances between the throttle blades and the throttle body. I would think they would have these resolved by now though!

Actually, from the signature:

97Z A4 Shmall Kine strokin stuff. AINT GOT S/C, N2O, rear end, and huge cam.
.... it's hard to figure out what he has in the car, making it hard to really respond intelligently to his questions.

When I got my Holley 58 I had to enlongate the holes. Mine actually threw a TPS overvoltage code. When this happens the automatic tanny will not shift correctly until you turn the car off. Holley said they haven't had a problem with the TPS mounting but I've noticed that most that have them have to make adjustments.
