high rpm misfire. help!

ok so it started a couple of weeks ago at the track. on the 2-3 shift at about 6000rpm the engine started misfiring like it was on the rev limiter, then finally shifted to 3rd. since then it is happening more often, now it starts as low as 5000 rpm and if i stay in it, will misfire until 6200 when it shifts. at other times it will go all the way to 6200 and no misfire. at work today i checked the coil and coil wire, they tested ok but i tried a new coil and wire anyway, still has the problem. i'm thinking opti but before i replace it, i'd like to know if it can be anything else. i have no codes, i have a high and low res. signal the whole time. i've never had an opti failure before so i'm not sure if it is or not. thanks for your help.

For me, this same problem has been either burn wires or opti. Check each wire for that wonderful burnt and cracking rubber...then diagnose the opti.

Thumbs up

Check your coil wire out.

i already tried a coil and wire since i had them. no change. i pulled the opti today at lunchtime and found the new water pump has a leak at the heater hose pipe that is pressed into the housing. it is above the opti but the cap had no signs of coolant and the insdie was dry, i'm gonna try a known good opti and see what happens.
