High output alternator for LT-1
Re: High output alternator for LT-1
I've been getting a lot of emails about my setup lately.
I'll post new pics again tonight.
The fatter wires made a difference. Since then I've upgraded the stereo as well. My littl 105 amp alternator was having a hard time keeping up so I had a local shop put more windings into it and a better stator. It pumps out 170 amps now. Cost me about $125.
But the wires made a considerable difference.

cool thanks.....I am just having a hard time grasping how to add the wire since it seems there isn't room to connect it.......but I guess your pics will hopefully clear some things up.
Re: High output alternator for LT-1
I bought one from a place called beavco in rockford il. got it of ebay don't know the amps but i'm running a audio video system and a underdrive pulley. I did jack it up in a accident and they rebuilt it for me under warranty and had it back to me in a week!!!!

Re: High output alternator for LT-1
Its kinda hard to see what is going on with your setup.....so basically did you just upgrade the 2 main wires by using the tops on the optima? Did you put a fuse in the wire to the alternator? Where exactly is the chassis to engine block ground at?
Re: High output alternator for LT-1
I upgraded the alternator wire to a 4 guage. The chassis to ground is also 4 guage and runs from the battery to one of the strut mount studs.
Because this optima has top posts and side posts I used side posts for the car's factory battery cables and the top posts for the alternator and additional chassis ground mentioned above.

Re: High output alternator for LT-1
my alternator just took a crap on me yesterday.im gonna order the 160 amp one from mr.alternator for 210.since i already have a chrome fan+pulley set hopefully they will lower the price a bit.as for upgrading the cables i think this is the best setup:
http://innovativewiring.com/camaro/c...omepagenew.htm
i think it will look much cleaner then having wires, fuses and terminals everywhere.

Bah i figured my time is more valuable and went ahead and ordered the innovativewiring set. Although this could have been done a lot cheaper than 70$ shipped, I just dont have the time to worry about it.
