High Idle??

My car is having problems with the idle right now. It will idle normally sometimes but alot of the time it will idle up to 1,500 and even sometimes 2,000. It does it most of the time when I first crank it up, but its known to just start doing it . Mods are what are in the sig. and it was doing this before I put the LT's and tuning on the car. Brad

Re: High Idle??

There is an Idle Air Control Valve in the throttle body that maintains idle. It may have some dirt in it causing it to stick, assuming the tune did not change the IAC tables. Try cleaning the TB and see if that helps.

Also, make sure your TB blades are fully closed at idle.

Re: High Idle??

I cleaned the whole TB and the IAC very well. The TB had lots of oil inside the top of it, under the plastic cover. Well anyways it still has the idle problem its just not as bad and only idles around 1,500 for about 30 seconds then goes down to under 1000. Could my IAC be bad?

Re: High Idle??

this has been an ongoing problem that many people have. First thing everyone says is, make sure the IAC and passages are clean. Second try resetting the IAC, by doing the following. Turn key to the "ON" position, but dont start the car. Press on the throttle roughly 1/2 way. With the throttle pressed, start the car. Once car starts, let idle for 10 seconds and shut car off. Let car sit for another 10 seconds off, then start car. This resets the IAC. I, and two of my friends are still suffering from this problem as well. No matter when it is, that I start the car, or come to a stop, the car idles high, roughly 1500, and its a m6. Roughly after 30 sec, it will idle down. I still am on the search for a cure as well...Keep us posted, and I will as well.
