Help Removing Crankshaft Balancer
Help Removing Crankshaft Balancer
Got started on changing out the entire distributor on my '97 LT1...now I'm stuck. How do you remove the crankshaft balancer that sits in front of the Opti? Man, I tried turning those 3 bolts that hold the balancer on but they don't budge. Do I turn them counter-clockwise to loosen or are they reverse threads?
Re: Help Removing Crankshaft Balancer
They are standard thread, turn counter clockwise to remove. Do you have a crank hub puller? You might put some WD40 on those bolts and let it soak for a few. Sometimes if they are on really tight I'd get a buddy to wedge a crowbar in the balancer and hold it in place while I used a breaker bar on the bolts. Not pretty but it worked........
Re: Help Removing Crankshaft Balancer
Use a long handled breaker bar and tap it with a hammer if need be. If you are just removing the opti and not the timing cover, you don't need to pull the hub and I recommend you don't pull it.

If the motor is turning instead of the bolts, put in 6th and the ebrake on.
