Have you asked it nicely to come off please?

When things get stuck on me I always try to turn it opposite to "break the seal" then try again. After working it back and forth a few times it nomally will break loose.

I know it's oil, but have you tried heating the outer rim of the filter? Maybe that would cause whatever is holding it, to 'goo' or get soft and come off.

Big thanks to you gex!! but thanks to everyone else also for ideas and comments.

Yes, just got it off 5 min ago, took some pics that i will post in about an hour or two.

I used the air hammer method, rip what was left around the thread of the oil filter, that part came off, then i unbolted the plate and i am just going to go buy a new one.

Do you know if the part number for that is 3952301?? cause that is what the dealership said but the number on the part i have is 3952302 which shows up as unavailable now.

did you figure out why it was on there so tight? crossthreaded? that just doesn't make sense how it could've been on there to the point of having to do that.

I am pretty sure it was cross threaded, because the air hammer got it to the point where it budged, but then would only turn slightly in both directions, so i had to take it all off.

I've read that you can use a adapter from any SBC motor that will allow you to run a much larger oil filter instead of the LT1 filters. I'm sure a search will pull up that info. Congrads on finally getting it off. I just finished pulling pacesetter LT off a transam I bought what a PITA!!!

?
How large? AC Delco makes a quart size filter. I believe the part number is 1284.

I use the larger oil filter than the one that they list under the camaro, i use the one for the other 5.7 l motors, its about twice the size in length.

STP S5, or Mobil m-302 i think are the two i use.

What brand was the filter.... hard to tell after you "violated" it?

I had some problems with FRAM filters being very difficult to uscrew, and in the most severe case, I traced it down to the threads on the filter being so poorly cut that they galled the filter adapter threads.
