Help!! PICS How to get off Totall Gutted/Ripped oil filter off the thread??
So i think i am mentally challenged, and i tried the screwdriver method, pretty sure i did it right, and had no room to get that craftsman thing from kmart to work, damn lt's and oil pan.
Here are some pics of where i am at.
I think i need to cut around the metal of the oil filter that is on the thread, and try to get something to grip the thick metal of the oil filter that is on the thread and turn it there.
I think the gasket dried and sealed up so much that is won't turn, not sure if that makes sense.
here are some pics though.

!!! If I were you I would try to put a large flat tip screw driver with a big head that won't cut the metal into one of the holes and pound on it with a hammer to try and get it to turn. I dont remeber 100% but if all else fails you can open the part covered but the base of whats left of the filter and take the adapter off the block. I just dont remeber where the bolt was located under there.Jason
Take a chisel to the base of the filter and hit it in a loosening direction...U can also chisel the whole base off the filter ..it will fall off and the threaded part will be loose. This WILL work!!!
I was also wondering what the bolt right above the filter part of the block does, the bolt that goes into the block right above the filter???

What did you do!??? HAHAHAHAHA thats hilarious. Sorry, but yeah, i have seen one like that before and we used the "hammer/chisel" method as well. Hey might wanna ask for a filter wrench for Christmas
If all else fails you may have to make yourself a tool. By that, I mean something that will slip into all of the filter holes (6 small rods), tied together on one end (welded to a block of steel), with a spot for a wrench or something (cut the head off of a bolt and weld to steel block). In case the chisel method doesn't work.
can i chisel around the center thread piece and rip off the outer piece? to just leave the thread part of the filter stuck on the thread of the block, and then use vice grips and hope that turns it.
I am assuming it is the gasket that is stuck and preventing the filter from turning, so would that remove the problem of the gasket, thus allowing me to just turn the center thread piece???
