Help!!! Pcm???
Help!!! Pcm???
Just climed into the old girl and turned the key and my rpm's went to 1500 @ idle, check engine light on and the cooling fans are running. Did I just loose my PCM??
Things I did to remedy problem:
Disconnected positive battery terminal for 15 mins to reboot PCM, NO LUCK.
Checked all sensor connections. TIGHT.
So much for going to a car show today.
Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Help!!! Pcm???
Its VERY rare to lose the PCM. Have it scanned and the code will tell you what's wrong. You will have a problem getting your 95 scanned, since its an OBD-I PCM with an OBD-II 16-pin ALDL connector. Most shops don't understand, and try to hook up an OBD-II scanner.
Re: Help!!! ECM???
Sorry for the earlier post I meant ECM not PCM.I was pissed when I was typing and must have had a brain fart or something.
Yes the engine stays running but there is something wrong and I think the ECM is bad. Will have to get someone to run an OBD-I code on it.
The only thing common to the cooling fans and the rpm is the engine computer correct??

Re: Help!!! Pcm???
The ECM and PCM are the same thing. Up through 1993, it was called the Engine Control Module. When they added the 4L60E A4 and "skip shift" to the M6 in 1994, it became the Powertrain Control Module.
A dealer can scan it. They "should" know about the issue with the ALDL connector. There are scanners available like the AutoXray that have an adapter plug for the 95's. You can use a "Scanmaster" scanner, that doesn't use a plug, but simple wire connections, or you can get software like TTS DataMaster or FreeScan for free, as long as you get the correct wire harness to connect your 95 to a laptop.
