Help me I'm having a debate: Keep the true duals/ x-pipe or switch to Mufflex 4"???

Right now I'm running the true duals/bullets/ x-pipe combo. I can pick up a Mufflex 4" system and I'm seriously thinking about switching. I'm getting a little tired of the noise from the duals. Someone give me some input and opinions. I've also considered having the duals run out the back or switching to a quieter muffler with the duals, maybe Flowmaster, Dynomax, or Summitt turbo mufflers. Let the opinions fly.

It is all about taste. One persons too loud is another's too tame. I think we all like to have opportunity to change things. I will be switching back and forth when time and money allow. The louder it is,the more I like the sound ,- BUTT!! the louder it is the LESS I tend to drive it . Nerves, COPS ,neighbors, etc. If you can I would try The Mufflex. Straight thru mufflers are MUCH louder than Tri flow types. I am building a out the stock tips 3.5 inch triflow(super turbo clone),AND some xpipe straightthru true duals exit under the car. The triflow most like will stay one most of the time but I will always like the lighter, louder deal just because it is different, not better.

I guess thats my problem also. I like it loud but sometimes it just gets a little annoying. I've gone from driving the car daily to driving it about every 2 or 3 days. But, when I had a Dynomax Ultraflow muffler, the car was almost too quiet for my taste. The setup I have now is loud but it sounds good. Very smooth, it does not pop and backfire, etc. I'm just thinking that the Mufflex will be much easier when it comes inspection time and still give excellent performance.

The 4" Mufflex is fairly loud, and has a serious resonance at about 2,500rpm.... at least with my engine. My chest would throb when it hit the peak on the resonance. I think if the tailpipe was extended past the bumper, rather than turning down under the hatch floor is would be a little better inside the car.

The system will support huge HP.... George Baxter ran one while his car was running low 9's...... and when he pulled the entire system off and switched to open headers, there was no HP difference, only a 50# weight savings....... .

If your just looking to quiet it down a little in the car you should try Car Chemisty collector inserts . If you dont have turndowns , that quiets its down some in the car too .

I did the opposite , switched from a 4" mufflex to true dual . The Mufflex is in the way ALWAYS . The duals are much lighter = easy to take off at the track or to work on the car to where the mufflex is a major pita to remove if you have too .

As far as mufflers go , and this is odd ....I used Delta flow 2-chamber flowmasters when I first did the duals . The Bullets I have now are actually a tad quieter . I didt have an X-pipe with the flowmasters though , I think that was probably the difference .

Thanks guys. This is the type of input I wanted. Where can I find info about the Car Chemisty collector inserts? I'd like to find out more info about them. Also, I do have turndowns also. For the most part I can handle the noise but it can definitely give you a headache on a bad day. I know it would be a lot cheaper for me to keep the duals and I do like the fact that it is easy to pull them off.

I thought I'd revive this thread since I just discovered these same inserts and was curious how they worked for you guys. I'm refabbing my dual setup now and was thinking about using these instead of bullets or conventional chambered mufflers.

Anyways, are you using the 2 disk or three disk? Are you using any other form of muffler? And how loud is it?

Thanks,
