Help me figure out drivetrain loss %
I went to the dyno and got the A/F damn near perfect. I was wanting a bigger number but i also know that 9" rearend takes more power to turn over 10 bolt. Also i have 4:33 rear gears, that also takes more power.
What is the power loss of these mods. I dynoed 360Hp and 340tq.
What would it have been if i have 10 bolt with lets say 3:73gears.
What is my engine putting out at the flywheel?
Tring to make myself feel better or the cam selection

Re: Help me figure out drivetrain loss %
i dont think the 9 inch looses as much as people think... i dynoed the same with the 10 bolt as i did with the 9 inch. the only thing i changed was i put an electric water pump on.
what are people gaining with those like 8 hp
what are your mods?

Re: Help me figure out drivetrain loss %
just stock internals with large cam high lift and heads p&p, usual bolt ons exhaust.
Also my exhaust was not uncapped i was running late and forgot to do it.
9" with 4:33 gears steel DS....

Re: Help me figure out drivetrain loss %
better than mine. I put down 316 and 315 trq with a 355 forged 236/242 cam, stock heads/intake and a faulty knock sensor through a 3200 stall and full bolts on, no cats and a cutout..
Havnet been back yet though.

Re: Help me figure out drivetrain loss %
well the cam is 236-242 lobe 110 lift .595/.605 (close)
heads flow around 260 @ .525/.550
Flp exhaust borla rear with cutout plugged for the dyno
Comp 1.6 RR, Spring and shing dig with cromoly pushrods
Usual bolt on electric water pump, pulley A/C delete,
Honest i was in middle of wire change when the guy said he was holding dyno day at local shop, also i need to reconnect MSD setup.
Cant wait till track day. I also got done installing Hal Qa1 shocks and better sway bar new torque arm setup, just need to fid a slight vibration within the drivetrain, but.....
I think the engine HP is what i was looking for, i knew rwhp would be a little lower cause of rearend, but what should be the lost.
What do you think my flywheel HP is around?

Re: Help me figure out drivetrain loss %
I actually measured the losses with my setup, comparing the engine dyno numbers to the chassis dyno numbers.
-stock T56
-Street Twin/steel flywheel
-3" chrome moly DS
-Strange 12-bolt/3.73's
-17x9.5 wheels with street 275/40's
Actual drivetrain losses ranged from 12.6% at 500 flywheel HP to 12.1% at 765 flywheel HP.
Published numbers for various rear axle configurations alone are:
-Dana 60: 5%
-GM 12-bolt: 7%
-Ford 9": 10%
I doubt there would be much difference between a 10-bolt and a 12-bolt, because they use the same geometry for the relationship of the pinion shft centerline to the ring gear centerline, and that's where the major differences are found between the 3 different rears. The closer the pinion centerline is to the ring gear centerline, the lower the losses.
