Help with the LS1 Intake Swap!

I have been digging through the search for a while and cant find what I need!

I DO NOT want to cut my support to fit the lid however I AM willing to trim the hood but I WANT TO KEEP THE STOCK HOOD.

I have seen several posts talking about the stock hood working with the Chris1919 kit from Speedinc without slaughtering that support, all they had to do was modify the base, and trim the hood. The only problem is, I cant find any pics of how they trimmed the hood or where. I have an "idea" but I would prefer to do this SLIGHTLY educated at the least...

Anyone have pics of this?? I would REALLY appreciate it!

Call me crazy, but why would you want the LS1 intake? IMHO, a good LT1 cold air kit from K&N or Moroso is much better than the LS1 intake. The air is pulled from the fender area.....which has to be cooler than pulling it from around the radiator.

I'm not trying to be a roadblock to what you want to do....but I'm just trying to understand why it's better than a LT1 cold air kit.

for SEVERAL reasons. Let me explain lol.

Reason #1: The LT1 intake the air has to go up, make a turn, then make another turn into the TB...it slows the air slightly and has a longer distance to travel plus yes the air is cool there, but nothing hits it directly. Think about how the LT1 cooling system works...the black air dam we have on the front underside of the car forces cool air up and into the radiator while you are driving. The air then passes throught the rad and cools the coolant.......now Imagine sticking a box down there that takes that cool air tht is being forced up into the radiator, and forcing it into an air box. Add to that that the air hits the filter and goes STRAIGHT into the TB with NO turns, it flows better and has less distance to travel.

Reason #2: The CAI for LT1's looks out of place and awkward to me...it looks like it shouldnt be there. if done RIGHT, the LS1 Intake setup looks natural and like it belongs there on TOP of its performance gains.

It has been proven to add more rwhp than a stock intake AND a CAI kit. I believe the numbers were 15-20rwhp over stock and 10-15rwhp over CAI.

I wish you good luck with the change over, but I do have a hard time believing those numbers.

I know there have. Not to be rude, but you take a stab at me I will take one back. If you READ my post, I TRIED the search. It yielded me nothing but the same thing over and over. People who cut their radiator supports or used a different setup than what I am going with. As I said, I wont cut the support and found a kit I want. All I need is a picture. I am not asking for a "HOW TO"

I AM NOT asking HOW to install the kit...I have those writeups...I am asking for a SINGLE PICTURE of where on the underside of the hood I need to cut so I am better prepared. THATS IT. I could not find this picture so I am asking for one.

I am not trying to be rude but I took what you said as a slight jab when it was not necessary.

I'm very sorry that you found my attempt to help you a "stab". As much as you indicate you don't want to be rude, you did a great job of being so.

Might want to get rid of the attitude, or you'll have a hard time getting help.

Good luck... I won't offend you in the future by trying to help. I will, however continue to moderate your posts.

the numbers he stated are correct. Hop over on Ls1tech and you will find tons of guys who have converted over to the LS lid.

Now as far as not cutting up the support, how else would you plan to do it?? I dont know of any other way to get some more room for clearence.

I have still not found an answer to the question

will a LS1 lid fit under a 96-97 WS6 hood?

Yes, it will fit without cutting the hood. I just did this on my 96 WS6 with a regular non-ws6 LS1 lid base/rad cover. You need to trim the 2 inner bolt supprts down to the height of the 2 outer bolt supports(that bolt the rad cover to the metal radiator support). You will need to trim down the ribs to contour with the outer edges of the ls1 rad cover and cut out the filter support from the middle of the filter opening. I also had to trim the radiator shroud plastic on the front of the ac condenser so the lid assembly will fit flush to the radiator support, I didn't care much about this since I also have an SSRA to install. If you can find an LS1 bellows that will work to connect your MAF and TB as well, unless you have a thick casting TB like a Holley (fits ASM and stock TBs fine). It's pretty much cut-fit-cut-fit-cut-fit until it fits. In the end my instal rubs the hood very slightly, but no more than it did on my '02 WS6. I'll try to get a few pics today for you since the snow seems to be melting pretty good, I do have one pic of the "finished" product.

Why not cut the core support the lid will hide the cut anyway......i did mine a long time ago and it was well worth it. proper fabricating will not look like a "hack job"

You should really be more open minded when your thread is replied to INJUNEER has been a contributing, educated, experienced, voice on this board and a few others he gives a great deal of advice that will help and should be respected a bit more..he was not poking at you at all RELAX!

I dont doubt his experience one bit, I just dont like when I say I did something and someone turns around and tells me to do something I JUST said I did. But I have made my decision, and found the path I am going to take, so this thread is useless now and done with. Good day.
