Help With Emissions Results

I failed the sniffer today on my freshly built 355. Results are:

Loaded HC 48 / 220 PASS
Loaded CO .01/1.20 PASS
Idle HC 372/220 FAIL
Idle CO .48/1.20 PASS

SO i passed everything but the idle hydrocarbons...failed miserbaly in fact. I assume this woule meant he car is running really rich at idle. One unusual thing is after the loaded test i put my car into park while i was waiting for the guy, but he then started the idle test without telling me to put hte car back into drive...would that negatively impact my HC at idle significantly? ALso in general what can i look for that might be causing tons of unburnt fuel - i'm suspecting an O2 sensor (i think my left bank is causing issues...it was giving me unusually low readings (like 40-60mv). Like i said above the engine is completely fresh...i only had 25 miles on it when i ran it through the sniffer. The engine was plenty warm (about 190-195 degrees) and had been running about 20 minutes before the test in 90 degree weather. Spark plugs are brand new, the wires aren't terribly old (i think around 15-20k miles on them). Injectors are stock to my knowledge (135k miles on them). Aside from the O2 any other ideas? Car was tuned by pcmforless...I was considering buying Tunercat. Would it be wise to get Tunercat at this point and reduce the spark advance or adjust the A/F ratio at idle?

You think its possible with only 25 miles on a new engine, the rings aren't seating, and you are getting oil in the combustion chambers? Just a thought.

And obvisouly there is going to be some overlap on the cam that will contribute to fuel flowing right thru the combustion chambers at idle. What's the LSA on the cam?

Re: Help With Emissions Results

I thought about that. I only have a 3-day limited use permit to get the vehicle registered. I guess i'm going ot have to try and get a 30-day temp registration maybe to try and get more miles on the vehicle so the rings are seated. You think pulling some plugs might help reveal whether this is the case or not?

EDIT: Cam has 112 LSA.

Re: Help With Emissions Results

112 lsa is whats causing your idle issues. Turn the idle up some and see if it helps. Alcohol will also help
