Help ASAP!

My car is carburated and when I try to turn it over and press the gas fire comes out the carb. Then I took the timing chain off and turned the timing 180 degrees to test it and does the same thing. Do you think it could be related to crankshaft position sensor? I don't know what it could be. The car won't run either way but just turns over and plugs and wires are fine.

Re: Help ASAP!

Verify that you have your spark plugs routed to the right plugs.

Re: Help ASAP!

Distributor may be 180* off

Re: Help ASAP!

LT1 Distributer (Hint: Computer sets that and only thing could be that would be CPS) Thanks for the help though but that won't do it. The timing was rotated 180 and still catches fire.

Re: Help ASAP!

If the wires are OK then the chain is off or the valves are to tight or the rotor in the opti has come apart.
So I understand the CPS is used for miss fire only unless it's an LS1

Re: Help ASAP!

It is more than likely something to do with your timing. You should be installing the cam with a degree wheel. If you do this correctly that shouldnt be of concern. I would check valve lash, and initial timing. ALSO since it has backfired through the carb make sure that the power valves are still in it. IF its one of the newer carbs it prolly has blowout protection. On my carbed cars if it does that it is almost always the distributor being 180 out or it is way retarded/advanced initial timing. If your valves are too tight it would also do this. All it takes is 1 valve being too tight and letting the flame past it up into the intake.

Please dont criticize others trying to help when you dont sound like you know much yourself.

Agreed... An LT1 with a distributor doesn't seem like too much of a stretch when we're already talkin' about an LT1 with a carb, so it was a logical suggestion.

I'll repeat what the others said.... that came off very poorly, slapping a guy in the face and laughing at him for trying to help you. You provided virtually no information about the engine in your original post, forcing people to make assumptions. Might want to rethink your approach.

PS: The CKP in the LT1 had nothing to do with the ignition timing, its just there to detect misfires. Might want to insure you have the Opti indexed correctly to the cam dowel.

Re: Help ASAP!

For your info it's not even an LT1. This engine uses the CPS to tell the coils when to spark so sorry. I just had to say it's an LT1 so they wouldn't close the thread.
