Re: Headers Or Cam ?

Kurt is being just a "tad" generous with that Long tube pricing, if you go with pacesetter LT's with their ORY and all the tid bits such as o2 extensions and percy or felpro gaskets, you're looking at 590-600 bucks after shipping. And of course you'll want to do a tune up since the manifolds are off to save headaches later, my suggestion is even if you've had a tune up recently, do one again. It's not expensive and will save an earlier headache than need be imo.

Going by your mods you just listed though, if it were me I'd be getting the headers I just mentioned, and we'll say thats 600 bucks for everything brand new. now you have 1300 left. I'd then go with a 3.73 gear, 2600-2800 stall TC, a cutout and mailorder pcm tune from madz28 or pcmforless. Of course that is if you did the work yourself aside from the gear install. And once again, this is just what I'd do if it were my car.

Re: Headers Or Cam ?

I think I might go ahead with the LE1 package, it looks like I will get the most horsepower from doing this mod. I'm not good at saving money, and I know it will be very very long time that i would have this money to spend on my car. But thanks everyone.

Will I need to ship my heads to Lloyd?

Either ship your heads to Lloyd or you can add another ~$300 on top of the final price and he'll find a set of heads for you...then you can sell your stock heads one you get his in.

Re: Headers Or Cam ?

I am not trying to discourage you from modding your car, but I think that you will be cutting it very close to your budget with the heads/cam package, especially if you can't install it yourself. You have to account for all of the "extra" things that you will need to buy for the heads/cam swap such as new roller rockers, new gaskets, timing set/chain, plugs/wires, head bolts, hardened push rods etc... Plus you are still going to need longtubes with the heads and cam. I just don't see all of this happening on a budget of $1900 if you are having to pay for the labor. I still say your money would be better spent on supporting mods such as..
1)Torque Converter for your A4
2)Rear Gears
3)Longtubes
4)Mail Order PCM Tune
The above mods would give a nice performance gain and be within your budget.

Re: Headers Or Cam ?

I agree with the above, I could never see myself putting heads/cam onto a stock exhaust otherwise stock period car. You will see minimal gains for the money you spend. The gains you are seeing displayed for that package are with headers/cai/catback etc. Just slapping a stage 1 heads/cam kit on your car will net you no more than headers/TC/gear/tune/cutout. And most likely after getting everything you need for the heads/cam swap, it would most likely cost more, especially if you don't do the work yourself. I would just start from the bottom and work my way up making more efficient decision's in the parts im putting on my car.

On a side note, if I raced somebody and got my *** kicked, and they asked what I had done, I'd rather say a few bolt on's rather than "heads and cam". This is your decision though, make it a wise one.
