weird opti/ignition no start question

My 96 TA died and won't start. I'm getting fuel to the rails, the injectors are firing, and I have spark out of the coil. I however don't have spark out of the opti. Could the cap and rotor go bad suddenly like that? The opti only has 10-20k miles on it, and the optical section is obviously working otherwise I wouldn't get spark at the coil. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: weird opti/ignition no start question

check the opti wiring harness where it plugs up by the pass. valve cover and where it goes down into the opti itself(straigt down ontop of the opti) mine was unplugged a little bit once and i got all crank, fuel and everything but no fire. pluged it in a vrooommmm.

good luck man

I did check it. It's all connected and the pins are making contact. I don't think I would get spark out of the coil if it were the problem.

Sounds like rotor failure. It happens to a lot of people.

That's what I'm thinking. Too bad it had to happen in the middle of rush hour traffic.

Re: weird opti/ignition no start question

Well, I just wanted to post up a final reply so anyone who searches in the future will find a conclusion. I pulled the opti off tonight, and sure enough the rotor was destroyed. Why it failed after such a short time I don't know. Oh well. At least I found the cause of the no start, and the miss prior to that.
