Headers burned everything...where to get new wiring harness??
Headers burned everything...where to get new wiring harness??
I developed a major hesitation about 6 months ago and found that my Longtubes had burned and cooked my wiring harness on the passenger side. I think the wires go to the o2 sensors, starter, etc. Is there a way I can get a whole new harness all together? BTW, back when i found the problem I rewired everything but not with the correct gauge wires. Suprisingly my car still runs fine but I want to do it the right way.
Re: Headers burned everything...where to get new wiring harness??
The new harness can be bought new from GM but is expensive. Might want to try getting used harness and inestigating why this happend in the first place.
Re: Headers burned everything...where to get new wiring harness??
Is it the engine harness or the body harness? I have the engine harness out of my '95 sitting in a box and may have the body harness available soon too. Let me know if you're interested.
Re: Headers burned everything...where to get new wiring harness??
I rerouted my harness down the front of the strut tower and inside the motor mounts to get away from burning the harness. As long as you used larger wire than what was there to repair it just drive on. If you used smaller wire then you'll want to replace that. In my opinion if you put a factory harness back in it will just be burnned up in no time again. Theres not enough clearance between the headers and the harness to avoid that.
Re: Headers burned everything...where to get new wiring harness??
Just start where you still have good wire left and extend those wires and route them away from header heat.
Your going to have to do it anyway, so just go up the harness till you get good, unburnt wires, extend to the length you need and then rewrap them with convoluted tubing.
This is why I spent several days extending and rerouting wires and such so they would be away from header heat.

Re: Headers burned everything...where to get new wiring harness??
Last time I walked into the dealer and got a price on the wiring harnes... it was $1XXX.XX and I laughed and so did the parts guy. I would just re sauder everything back with the right wires... trust me... You'll be asking yourself... spend 600.00 on a new PAinless LT-1 wiring harness also found on "EBAY" where people sell LT-1 harness and stuff like every day for dirt cheap! ... or shoudl you spend like 5 bucks at radio shack and get it done right there.

Ugh, my harness started to burn but luckily i caught it the nest day and none of the wires got melted, just that black plastic around though. All though the weather pack connector for the 02 is destroyed.
