Head cam question
Head cam question
For christmas I am going with a roller rocker set-up. I work with a few people that are in the single digits and was told to have a machine shop put in the 3/8 ARP rocker studs. After I got to thinking, if I am going to have the heads off for the studs why not get them to do a nice port job while I am at it??? Then I said, since I am pulling the A/C, pulling the radiator (needs a really good external cleaning), and the heads are off why not do a cam to go with the headers. Then when it warms up get the 3.73's and a few suspension peices then I am going to need a tune....... CARS ARE EXPENSIVE SNOW *****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My question is this after doing some searches some people say don't port them because they LT1 heads flow pretty good, some people say only port them when you have a cam, some say port on the stock motor.
Anyone want to shed some light on this or am I just going to get more confused LOL!

Re: Head cam question
Well, if you want to waste as little money as possible, set a goal and plan out your mods ahead of time. You can do it in phases, but obviously you don't want to pay someone to pull the heads three times.
Porting the LT1 heads will only be worth it if you run a big cam (or plan to!). If you go with a cam like the xe 224/230 or bigger you will need to port teh heads in order to flow the amount of air needed at 6K RPM.
If your goal is heads and cam, then I'd say get the heads ported while they're off for machining. And put some big springs on the valves so you'll be ready for the cam.

Re: Head cam question
Well I was going to get 3.73's and KB double diamond sub frames put in over the winter along with a torque arm and all but I am going to pay someone to do most of it and the car will not be driving over the winter so I am thinking about doing some head and cam work and exhaust over the winter then the other stuff over the summer.
I sent an e-mail to Indy Cylinder head asking about them doing some work on it. I was also going to spray it but I think I am going to hold off on that.
