Having problems installing crank gear
Having problems installing crank gear
I'm usings a BIG socket to fit over the crank snout, some washers, and a longer crank bolt to "pull" it on. I've done it several times this way without a problem.
I switched over to an Eagle crank during this rebuild, and the crank gear refuses to go on. It slides on most of the way, but once there is about a half-inch between it an the crank "shoulder," it will not budge.
Being the idiot that I am, I forced it and ended up stripping some threads! It can probably be repaired with a tap, though.
Any tips or special tools that can be used?
Maybe the tapered portion of the crank is out of spec and too big? It is Chinese, after all. I guess I could have a machine shop enlarge the crank gear a bit, but I don't know how much.
BTW, what size tap is required to repair the crank threads?
This blows!
