H&C install...Need advice on the oil pan gasket.

Head and install is going great, however the oil pan gasket under the timing cover has become a PITA.

I carefully removed the gasket from the timing cover, there was gasket material holding it on very well. There are some slices in the gasket but they don't go all the way through and it is not torn at all.

The gasket was leaking some even before all this and I am wondering how hard it would be to install a whole new oil pan gasket. Right now the engine is stripped down all the way to the block and the oil pan is completely unbolted and sitting on the K-member.

At this point what would I have to do to replace the oil pan gasket or would it be fine to just RTV the old one back in?

It's not as hard as you might think. This should help you out; just sift through the bit of bickering.
