Ground Problem
Ground Problem
Ok so I finished the wiring on my battery relocation and something is waay wrong.
I wired it up exactly as it says on the forums in here and it all works but one thing. When I crank it over its very very slow and my ground wire for the PCM was smoking ( I added one ) and that wire burnt off most of its sheathing. So I stripped it back to the solder connection and the tan / white wire wasnt even burnt. I dont know what happened.
The battery is grounded the one of the four bumper bolts in the back and I dont have a engine ground as of yet, Im just trying to adjust the valves.
The tan / white wire is tight on the head also so I dont see that being a potential problem. Original Black / white wire PCM ground is tight on the block also. Im confused

There's your answer. Hope you did not fry anything else important.
You took the ground off the engine and put it on the chassis. Now any ground to the engine has to go through other small grounds that are still present. When you are cranking your engine, a tremendous amount of amperage is trying to go through those small wires. Do you still have the braided ground strap from the chassis to the coil stud? Even if you do, do what IPrice said. You can get universal cables and straps at any auto parts store.

Well I know I didnt fry anything else. The only wire that got hot was the wire I soldered to the pcm ground. The tan/white wire that grounds to the head, I soldered another wire from those at the pcm and grounded it on the stud on the wheel well. Thats the only wire that got hot. For some reason the pcm grounds didnt just that one..
Well will any parts store have a 2 ga ground strap? or does it even have to be that big? Sorry for the confusion, still trying to learn this stuff
Thanks
