Angry 383 stroker---making a thumping noise-- *vid*--please help

Well guys i have a problem here.... My engine is making a "thumping" noise coming from the passenger side rear of the engine. I pulled the header gasket to see if that was it but it was fine. As soon as I start my car it drops to 700-900 rpms when it should be around at 1300-1400 rpms. It also stumbles some when i try to take off from a stop. And it also burns up alot more gas than normal-- i feel like i get 6 miles to the gallon. I believe these problems happened right around when the engine started making noise. It doesnt throw an SES light or any other codes. I also revved it a little in the pitch black night and i did see a couple small blue flames coming from the side of the engine. What are yall's guesses as to whats wrong with it? Exhaust leak? something internal? Your help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like lack of valvetrain adjustment as well as a bad exhaust leak. I would suggest not driving it until the valvetrain can be readjusted.

Is it accurate to say its an exhaust leak?

I found it a little hard to tell from the vid but I think SS RR has it. Try adjusting rockers with engine running and report back.

One way you can tell is by putting the car in a higher gear and giving it some gas. If the "tapping" becomes louder then it's an exhaust leak. From what I hear it sounds like a combination of both.

Well guys, I just got back from having my car looked at by a car expert and he said its a definate exhaust leak. He said it sounds like its coming from the flange gasket that connects the header to the y-pipe.(dont know if its flange or donut gasket). He also said when i left my car blew out a flame from the tailpipe when i gave it some gas and spun out. Any thoughts?

Do you have headers? It indeed does sound like it's leaking from the yoke, but (maybe it's just the mic on the camera) it also sounds like you have a very noisy valvetrain.
You should check your spark plug boots and spark plugs to see if there is any carbon on them to make sure there are no leaks around the manifold/header flange.

You said you were getting poor milage, I would check the injectors for one that could be stuck open. Over fueling in one cyl could make that same noise.

Good luck

Also check valve adjustment, as above. I like doing it while running unless solid roller.

well guys i found my problem, it was the flange that connects the passenger side header to the y-pipe. Tightened the bolts back up and 75% of the niose is gone. Although it does seem to still make a little thumping, I was told that could be due to the aftermarket heads or the cam in it. Any other thoughts? Thanks again.

Comp Promagnum 1.6 rockers- non-self-aligning. It does have a little bit of a "gargling" noise from under the valve covers on both sides.
